Supplied by Family History Indexes. The Home Office recorded persons charged with indictable offences in England and Wales between 1805 and 1892 in the registers now held as Series HO 27 at the Public Record Office. These are now being indexed. Full information from the registers is provided: names, aliases, court, offence and sentence/acquittal; also a variety of statistics showing numbers of (alleged) offenders and ratios within the population. Around 35% of those recorded were not actually found guilty and these indexes give a tremendous insight into the social conditions of the time. The Master Index shows Surname and County. Files on 3½” disks are plain ASCII text files for IBM PC. They can be imported into word processors, spreadsheets and databases running under Windows.
