1901 Cumberland Directory (Bulmer's)

Ref: ARB-0115S

Supplied by Archive CD Books.

A very comprehensive and detailed county directory, very similar to the famous White's directories. Each place is described in great detail with information about schools, churches, hospitals and other institutions plus a historical and topographical account.

Every town, village and hamlet has a directory of tradesmen and farmers. As an example the parish of Home St Cuthberts, which had a population of only 753 in1891, has a two page description plus a directory with 110 names in it. As a percentage 110 out of 753 does not appear to be that high but if you consider that each of those people mentioned will have been the head of a household with a wife and possibly several children you will see that these directories are actually very comprehensive indeed.

Please note that this is a book scanned onto a CD, not the actual book.
