The 1851 census was the first to record information that was really helpful to the family historian such as birthplaces and fairly accurate ages. That detail is available in handy booklets that you can have nearby whilst you are searching out your ancestors' baptisms, marriages and burials. Perhaps they have been immortalised in memorial inscriptions. See how the towns and villages in which they lived 150 years ago compare with the sprawling cities and towns of today.
