THE HUGUENOT SOCIETY OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND
Founded 1885 Registered Charity No. 214726
The Huguenot Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded in 1885 as the Huguenot Society of London by Directors of the French Hospital and others to preserve and maintain records, and to promote the publication and interchange of knowledge about the Huguenots. The further aim, of equal importance, is to develop a bond of fellowship among those who, whether or not of Huguenot descent, respect and admire the character of the Huguenots and seek to perpetuate their memory.
At the heart of the Society is the Huguenot Library where since 1885 learned manuscripts and other documents have been archived and catalogued. Many books published on all aspects of Huguenot life and experience are there for all to read.
At the head of the Societys publication programme is Proceedings where learned papers and other historical material relating to the Huguenots has been published annually since 1885. Proceedings gathers together new research papers, reviews, Officers reports and accounts of Society events and is circulated to all members in order to keep the broader Society informed of recent research. Many subscribing libraries worldwide have back numbers of Proceedings and the Quarto Series which combine to provide a local resource for research on the Huguenots.
