Ryde Social Heritage Group

Back in 2002, a group of friends got together with the aim of forming a group to research the history of Ryde, on the Isle of Wight.

By 2005, they were formally established, sharing information about the town, including the lives of the people who had lived there, the businesses and how the town had grown over the years.

Ryde Cemetery provided the starting point for recording Memorial Inscriptions, as well as maps, which led the members into researching the lives of those in the graves. Over the years, many important events happened in the town and they are researched, with the accompanying documents being lodged in the RSHG's archives, and can be viewed on Open Days and at exhibitions.

Click on the link below to see some of the books that are available from the group, which will help you to learn about the history of the town. New members to our group will be warmly welcomed.
