Superstitions come in many forms and some of their origins have been lost in the mists of time. But we have books that will help you to understand why people thought - and still think - that good and bad luck can be foretold in many different ways.

Some folklore has grown up differently from place to place - the customs in Northumberland being different from even those in the next county of Yorkshire, for example. Many of today's customs stem from observances held a hundred or more years ago; find out how they have grown over the years.
