Pontefract and District Family History Society is an active group of family historians who live in Pontefract and the surrounding area. Most of us have family interests in the region and have good local knowledge. We are happy to help beginners and new members alike and we welcome new subscriptions at any time of the year.

As well as Pontefract, which includes the Chapelry of Knottingley the areas of Carleton, East Hardwick and Tanshelf, we also cover the ancient parishes of Castleford, Ackworth, Birkin, Featherstone, Hemsworth, Kippax, Normanton, Methley, South Kirby, Ledsham, Monk Fryston, Kellington, Badsworth, Felkirk, Wragby, Darrington, Womersley, Brotherton, Ferry Fryston. Kirk Smeaton, and the towns and villages within them.

The Society’s journal, The Bridge, is published and sent out free to members four times a year. It is packed with articles and snippets. Members of the Society are very active and we now have about 170 published booklets, with many more in progress.
