Supplied by Kabristan Archives. Contains approx 900 memorials found in the three major graveyards of Kells, St Columcille’s RC Cemetery, St John’s Cemetery St Columba’s Church of Ireland. Kells in County Meath is a small market town between Virginia and Navan. Quiet and unassuming this gentle place belies its turbulent past which dates back to the time of St Columcille when the Norsemen and later the English strove to crush at town which refused to be conquered . Time after time Kells equally determined to survive rose from the ashes much to the annoyance of its would-be masters. Today Kells plays host to many tourists who come to learn its history and gaze with wonder on the antiquities of a forgotten age. By Eileen Hewson. (pp54 index of approx 900 memorials).
