Parishes, Registers and Registrars

This book was compiled in 1993 and has been reprinted several times, due to demand.

For the last two years the SAFHS Working Group has been gathering information from many sources, some of which were perhaps not available when the original book came out. The New Edition of the book is as good as, if not better than, the previous one.

The Parishes, Registers and Registrars, New Edition is, like its predecessor, in 3 separate sections:

1. Maps, showing the parishes and counties of Scotland;
2. An alphabetical list of the parishes of Scotland, showing the Parish Number, the county the parish is in, and the years for which the OPR Baptisms, Marriages and Burials are available;
3. A list of Registrars, with their contact details.

In addition, at the front of the book there is a list of Chapman Codes, which is a useful addition plus a list of the names of counties which changed over the years; Haddingtonshire became East Lothian, for example.

For me, the best feature of the book is that it shows if there are any baptism, marriage or death records within any parish, and if so, for which years.
