There are some extremely good genealogy programmes available today, but they all have one flaw - you must be at your computer to fully utilise their features. OK, so I don't supply 20 CD-Roms, but I’m simply offering you an excellent, useful - and usable - way to record the information you have now and will subsequently gather in your future research. The Suffolk System of Recording Family History uses a word-processor to store your data, and allows you to take ALL your relevant information with you in an A4 ring binder. Your records are easily edited and updated and utilise a brilliantly simple, yet incredibly effective, cross-referencing method. You may already have gathered a large amount of information and could simply use a better way to store it - I doubt if you will find a better method than “the Suffolk way”. Not only will all your data be easily accessible and easily “updateable” within your computer, you also have - and this is the real power of my way - an extremely portable system which you can take wherever your research takes you! Quite simply, my system takes the conventional way of drawing out lines of descent and turns it on its side! You can display up to 15 generations - quite legibly! - across a sheet of A4 paper. Originally written by my late father for the Amstrad PCW series and published in booklet form some 15 years ago, I have updated his work to suit the power of today’s word-processors (eg. the incorporation of images and hyperlinks) and have created templates for use with MSWord and other word-processors.
