Understanding Parish & Manor Records: Practical Guides for Family History & Local History Research

Ref: DPS-PGFRCD

Supplied by Dartmoor Press.

The text titles of the original widely-acclaimed Dartmoor Press booklets first published individually in the 1990s under the series title “Practical Guides For Family History & Local History Researchers” are now available together on a single CD, providing a valuable resource to understanding and interpreting a wide variety of archive materials.

Although the transcripts quoted in the texts are exclusively from Devon archives, the commentaries and explanatory notes are applicable to records of the type held in record office parish and manor collections of other counties, for the legislation (and, in the case of manors, ancient customs) to which such documents and practices had to conform were almost universal throughout the country (though researchers will, of course, encounter purely local and dialect terms for various commodities and things during their own studies).
