Internet research of the archives in Britain has become more available and easier.

Now we have put Book 2 that lists all the older archives, on a CD ROM. So you can have this marvellous research aid running on your computer whilst you are searching the indexes for your ancestor. It is quick and easy to access all the information in the book.

Archive indexes of British data is growing, but you still need to know if those indexes are the relevant period to your research and when the records could exist. Also, this CD will tell you where the originals can be seen and a short description of those archives. The charts and helpful hints in What Date Book 2 do all this.

The Timeline charts are especially useful for showing when an archive begins and ends. This CD ROM is a great help in identifying what you are looking at in the Helpful Hints section. There are Internet links to a list of useful sites, which are just a click away.

Pre 1851 research can be more difficult than the easier research through the Government archives indexes. Unfortunately, the archives that come before the changes in the early 19th century may not include the same amount of information as the later documentation, so there are more opportunities to get stuck.

It is important to gather as much accurate information as possible from the later archives that relate to your ancestor, as this information, no matter how small may lead you to earlier archives. This CD ROM gives advice on this and describes the changes at this time and what you should do to advance your research through these older records.
