Supplied by Dartmoor Press.

Series Description: (See Below For Individual Volume Contents) The series of three Few Sheaves of Dartmoor History CDs comprise a series of text files of transcripts and extracts from a very wide variety of original archive materials held in record office parochial and manorial collections and printed sources held in local studies reference libraries. The sources from which the transcripts and extracts have been gleaned include - churchwardens' accounts, vestry minutes, manor surveys, manor rentals, settlement examinations, removal orders, militia records, rate lists, tax rolls, tithe surveys, workhouse accounts, receivers' accounts, overseers' accounts, highways accounts, newspaper reports and adverts, letters, property deeds, school minutes, manor stewards' accounts, wills, inquisitions post mortem, plantation accounts, trade directories, apprenticeship indentures, mine ledgers, property leases, marriage settlements, and a host of other miscellany of all types. Of course, the contents of each individual parish file varies considerably, reflecting not only the range and extent of surviving documents but also the scope of the original research conducted by the vendor into that particular parish and its local history and family history. Prospective buyers should also note that the files (named by parish: see below for contents) on these CDs contain transcripts and extracts only, with no explanations or clarifying remarks or commentaries. For a series of guides to understanding and interpreting various archive materials, enquirers should refer to the Practical Guides For Researchers CDs also available from MJ Books.
