Think of Assam and one thinks of tea and tea planters, burra sahibs all, sons of the British Empire. However there is far more to it than tea.

What about ‘On this spot was murdered Noel Williamson, Assistant Political Officer at Sadyia on 31st March 1911, and ‘Annie Parker the faithful and affectionate wife of Mr J.P. Parker, architect , Calcutta who died at Goalpara Ghat on 28th November 1849 whilst proceeding to Tezpur’

The British swarmed to India and died in swarms in their twenties, thirties and forties in accidents with animals, from drowning, of jungle fever and a multitude of other diseases including ‘brain fever’.

There is an introduction, a detailed index and some biographical details and several photographs. A definite must for anyone connected to the area.
