Volunteer Defence Corps were set up during the First World War and initially consisted of volunteer men unable to serve in the armed forces who wanted to help in the war effort. In 1916, following the introduction of conscription, Military Service Tribunals were given the power to force men to join. Defence Corps were established locally and combined to form an area Battalion. The Mid Bucks Battalion comprised the Companies set up in Aylesbury, Chesham, Princes Risborough, Wendover and Wing. This publication is a transcription of the membership roll of the Mid Bucks Battalion dated 1915. Each entry in the roll contains name, age, date of joining and previous military service. Some of the entries also contain additional remarks.
