The bill which re-established the Militia was amended in 1762 so that all men aged between 18 and 45 years, with certain exceptions, were liable to be 'conscripted' into the Militia by ballot. This booklet contains a transcription of the Militia Ballot Lists for the Northamptonshire Hundreds of Hamfordshoe, Higham Ferrers and Spelhoe compiled in January 1781. Men are listed within their parish of residence by surname and christian name. In most cases their occupation is included and in some cases there are notes regarding their eligibilty. Hamfordshoe Hundred consisted of the parishes of Earls Barton, Ecton, Great Doddington, Holcott, Mears Ashby, Sywell, Wellingborough and Wilby. Higham Ferrers Hundred consisted of the parishes of Bozeat, Chelveston cum Caldecot, Easton Maudit, Hargrave, Higham Ferrers, Irchester, Newton Bromswold, Raunds, Ringstead, Rushden, Stanwick, Strixton and Wollaston. Spelhoe Hundred consisted of the parishes of Abington, Boughton, Great Billing, Little Billing, Kingsthorpe, Moulton, Northampton All Saints, Northampton St. Giles, Northampton St. Peter, Northampton St. Sepulchre, Overstone, Pitsford, Spratton and Weston Favell.
