The parish of Chilvers Coton includes the hamlets of Arbury, Griff and Heath End.  

The area was agricultural with a static population until coal mining and the ribbon weaving industries were established. Its other claim to fame is being the birthplace of  the Victorian novelist, George Eliot, born Mary Ann Evans at South Farm, Arbury Estate.
