In February 1798, with the imminent threat of invasion by French forces, returns were ordered to be made of all able-bodied men between the ages of fifteen and sixty years who were not already serving in a military capacity.  Lists were also to be made of the number of draught horses, waggons and carts and their owners and of those occupying wind and water corn mills.  This booklet contains a transcription of the returns for the Hundred of Stoke, listing over 2,200 persons giving their residence, occupation and, in some cases, notes concerning either status or eligibility. The Hundred of Stoke is one of the 3 constituent hundreds of The Chiltern Hundreds (Burnham & Desborough are the others) and comprises the following ancient parishes and hamlets: Colnbrook, Datchet, Denham, Eton, Fulmer, Hedgerley, Horton, Iver, Langley Marish, Stoke Poges, Upton-cum-Chalvey, Wexham and Wraysbury.
