The bill which re-established the Militia was amended in 1762 so that all men aged between 18 and 45 years, with certain exceptions, were liable to be 'conscripted' into the Militia by ballot. This file contains a transcription of the surviving Militia Ballot Lists for the Buckinghamshire Hundred of Secklow (or Sigelai) compiled in February 1831. Men are listed within their parish of residence by Surname and Christian name. In most cases their age and occupation is included and in some cases there are notes regarding their eligibility. Secklow Hundred is one of the constituent hundreds in the north of Buckinghamshire more usually known as the Three Hundreds of Newport and consists of the parishes of Bletchley with Water Eaton, Bradwell with Bradwell Abbey, Calverton, Fenny Stratford, Great Linford, Loughton, Newport Pagnell with Caldecot, Newton Longville, Shenley Church End, Simpson, Stantonbury, Stoke Hammond, Stony Stratford (East), Stony Stratford (West), Willen, Woolstone Magna (Great), Woolstone Parva (Little), Wolverton and Woughton on the Green. The return for Willen has not survived and that for Newport Pagnell and its hamlet of Caldecot has been published separately.
