Simla and Himachal Pradesh Burial Records 1839-1941

Ref: KAB-175

Supplied by Kabristan Archives.

A collection of over 4200 records of the British and Europeans who died in Simla, the summer capital of the British in India, and the surrounding army cantonments situated in the hill stations in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh.

During the summer months the heat became unbearable on the plains so the administration came up with the idea of shifting its seat of power to Simla where the temperature was pleasant and the social life amenable. It soon resembled a village in Sussex with its English houses and an Anglican church. Nowadays it is favourite holiday place for Indian tourists and honeymooners.
