The Poll Tax of 1694 was levied in order to fund a 'vigorous' war against France.  The basic rate, paid by most individuals aged sixteen and over, was four shillings per annum and was collected in four quarterly instalments.  This file contains a transcription of the lists of eligible persons within each parish and the amount they were to pay.  For some parishes the same list was used when collecting the second and subsequent instalments, being suitably amended to include newcomers and exclude those who had left the parish or died.  Other parishes made supplementary lists of persons added and removed since the previously collected instalment.  Stoke Hundred comprises the Buckinghamshire parishes of Datchet, Denham, Eton, Fulmer, Hedgerley, Horton, Iver, Langley Marish, Stoke Poges, Upton cum Chalvey, Wexham and Wraysbury.  With the exception of Eton (with Eton College) all parishes are included in this transcription.
