The first census for the whole of Britain (excluding Ireland) was taken in 1801 and thereafter every ten years, but up to 1841 they were purely statistical - individual names not being required. However, some enumerators made up their own lists which sometimes survive amongst individual parish documents. This publication contains a transcription of two such documents from the parish of Iver. The 1801 return lists the inhabitants of Iver within the various 'Divisions' or hamlets which constituted the parish as a whole. whilst the 1821 listing does not provide this information it is unusual in that it has been compiled in a pre-printed book, thus giving a clear indication of the questions asked of householders.
