The Parish of Newport Pagnell - Militia Ballot List 1831

Supplier:
The Eureka Partnership
The bill which re-established the Militia was amended in 1762 so that all men aged between 18 and 45 years, with certain exceptions, were liable to be "conscripted" into the Militia by ballot.  This booklet contains a transcription of the surviving Militia Ballot List for the Buckinghamshire parish of Newport Pagnell and its hamlet Caldecote compiled in Februry 1831.  Men are listed by surname and christian name.  In most cases their age and occupation is included and in some cases there are notes regarding their eligibility.
