The Story of Lanchester & Satley

Ref: AFHS-25

Supplied by the Annfield Plain Family History Society.

Other evidence of habitation in Lanchester in ancient times was confirmed by a find near Hurbuck Farm about 2 miles west of the Roman Camp. It was the most important discovery of Anglo-Saxon weapons and tools ever found in County Durham.

They were found by a farmer fishing in the Smalhope Burn. Among them were a sword, four scythes and eight axe heads.
